Here is Peaches Story
We purchased Peaches from a pet store here in NJ in March 2006. She was around 6 years old at the time and she was not in a good condition. Her feathers were tattered and chewed, she had no feathers on her legs and some places on her wings, she had (1) toy in her cage, and lived in a pet store where the customers were her interaction with people. The 1st time we went to look at her the employee that took her out said that "she was not a bird person". The 2nd time we asked for the manager, we were told that "he had an attitude".
We have decided that she was a girl based on the coloring of her eyes, and so we now have our girl Peaches. She bit me the night that we got her, enough to draw blood. However, I am happy to say that she is adjusting well and doing good. She is growing her feathers back, as you can see from the pictures, and she is liking her new home. She gets fed different sorts of food and she also gets her time out of the cage with us - either on the front porch on her new stand (her old stand was the back of the chair, or sitting on our hand or arm and relaxing) She was, and is still scared when things fly overhead, but getting better. She has also started talking to us.
What a joy - I come downstairs in the morning and hear "Hello how are you?" or to leave out the door and hear "bye bye ". She also has some very interesting conversations in the evening with herself - she babbles to herself for about 5-10 minutes sometimes. Also funny, when I am upstairs, or in the basement, I sometimes hear a very loud "hey", that is her wondering where I am. She has started imitating the dog growling and seems to pick up more each day.
She is a joy to have around and we thoroughly enjoy her!
